Kidnappers beat Uniport lecturer to death after collecting 1.1m naira ransom


Two men were arrested by the Police for allegedly kidnapping a University lecturer working with University of Port-harcourt in September 2016. The two young men who were later identified as Patrick Koyi and Chituru Ferdinard from investigation had beaten the lecturer (Emmanuel Chinasa Obi) to death after collecting a ransom of 1.1m naira.
According to Police report, the suspects had collected 700,000 naira from his family members while the man was still alive and thereafter 400,000 after he had already died.
When Police caught up with Koyi after the kidnapper had refused to release the lecturer after the family had paid the ransom. It was during a raid at Koyi's location that they found the late Mr. Obi phone in his possession.
Koyi's who later led the Police to the residence of Ferdinard after owning up to the accusations. After series of interrogation, they revealed that they had kidnapped Mr. Obi after finding out that he was building a duplex in his village in Rumuji.
